Can you spot the baby bump?
Here’s a nice late Valentine’s Day present for Bones fans (and shippers in particular): our beloved Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) have featured in Entertainment Weekly’s “25 Great TV ‘I Love You’s.’” (Our pedantic grammar department tells us that the apostrophe’s not acceptable, but make of that what you will.)
The particular episode to be honored is “The Parts in the Sum of the Whole,” a tour de force down Memory Lane (and unsurprisingly directed by David Boreanaz [Booth] himself). We won’t get into the nitty-gritty, as fans are no doubt exceptionally familiar with the episode already; suffice it to say that Sweets (John Francis Daley)’s book research compels an epic and steamy flashback involving all the shippers’ dreams of Booth and Brennan coming true.
Of course, it’s not any literal “I love you” that trigger’s EW’s (and our) heartstrings so much as it is Booth’s “I’m a gambler” speech — a Periclean spectacle that leaves even the stone-hearted Brennan in tears.
Kudos to the folks at EW for reminding us of a singular Bones episode — which, for its part, reminds us of a singular time in Booth’s and Brennan’s lives. A reminder within a reminder... ? Where have we seen something like this before?
