One of the best moments in the life of a hit TV show is when you get to meet your beloved characters’ on-screen parents. So we were delighted to learn that on an upcoming episode of Modern Family, Cam’s (Eric Stonestreet) father will be introduced.
The actor playing Merle Tucker is Barry Corbin — who many of us remember as Coach Whitey Durham on One Tree Hill. More recently, Barry played Brenda’s (Kyra Sedgwick) father on The Closer. So the guy clearly has experience playing authority figures and dads, particular tough guy versions. Does that mean we’ll find out that Cam’s Missouri father will be a manly man, just like Mitchell’s (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) dad Jay (Ed O’Neill)?
Eric tweeted this photo of himself with Barry at a Modern Family table read. According to TVLine, Cam’s dad will appear in an episode during the May sweeps. We can’t wait for a little Midwestern comfort.
